Изучалась динамика познавательных процессов у людей пожилого возраста. Установлено: у жителей города когнитивные функции снижаются позже, чем у жителей села. В снижении когнитивных функций при старении подтвержден эффект гетерохронности, считавшийся ранее только атрибутом раннего периода взросления.

The article deals with the dynamics of elderly people's cognitive processes. It has been established that townsmen's cognitive functions decrease later than these of villagers. Cognitive functions, decreased due to aging, confirm the effect of heterochrony, which was earlier considered to be only the attribute of the the early period of growing-up. Decreasing of higher mental functions is not connected with education received by a person. Changes in higher mental functions, which take place at the age of retirement, are predetermined by the type and duration of the late period of life. The ability to think logically and make generalizations at the age of retirement is positively influenced by the previous productive activities in the professional sphere "human being – human being". The law of heterochrony in changes that take place in higher mental functions during the late period of life declares itself in the same way as during the periods of growing-up. Decreasing of higher mental functions usually begins at the chronological age of 60 with a decrease in thinking productivity that is accompanied with a decrease in memory capacity. This decrease in memory capacity declares itself 5 years later than a decrease in thinking productivity.
